Information We Collect

PlainRetire protects your privacy while you explore retirement plan intelligence and DOL Form 5500 filings. Our site analytics use Umami, a tool that processes no cookies and is designed to never collect personal information from any visitor. We only see combined, anonymous usage data, which pages receive the most views, where traffic comes from, and what types of devices visitors use.

Cookies & Tracking Technologies

PlainRetire does not set first-party cookies. However, third-party services used on this site may set cookies:

• Journey by Mediavine uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Mediavine and its partners may serve ads based on your browsing patterns.
• Cloudflare may set security cookies (e.g., __cf_bm) to distinguish humans from bots.
• Google Analytics (GA4) uses cookies to measure website traffic and usage patterns. Data is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policy.

Your browser's light/dark theme preference is stored in localStorage, which never leaves your device.

If you use "Save to my watchlist" on a plan page, the saved plan list is also stored only in localStorage on this device and is never sent to our servers.

Advertising

We display advertisements through Journey by Mediavine. Mediavine and its advertising partners may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Data Sources

All data displayed on this site comes from DOL Form 5500 Annual Reports. No private or proprietary data is used. No personally identifiable information from these datasets is stored or displayed.

Editorial Independence

Content on PlainRetire is built from public DOL Form 5500 filings published by the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA): the raw filing data is transformed into readable plan profiles, rankings, and guides, with the figures read directly from the source records. PlainRetire designs the methodology and templates, runs data-quality checks, and is responsible for editorial standards and corrections.

We do not accept payment, sponsorship, or promoted placement from financial firms, banks, advisors, or any covered entity. Our only revenue source is contextual display advertising served by Journey by Mediavine, advertisers do not influence which entities we cover or how we present data, and they do not receive preferential placement.

• Cloudflare - CDN, security, and hosting (Cloudflare Privacy Policy)

Children's Privacy

PlainRetire does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
